Why do neoconservatives never have to distance themselves from Frank Gaffney?

Gaffney is, to put it charitably, a few longnecks short of a twelve-pack. To put it uncharitably, he’s stark raving mad. He believes that Sharia Law is an impending threat to the American republic. He’s warned that President Obama “not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself.” He’s suggested that Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii. He continues to peddle the utterly discredited notion that Saddam Hussein was tied to both 9/11 and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
