Next Stop: Iran by Mike Whitney

Iran has not been targeted for its tyrannical government or for it abysmal human rights record. Rather, it sits on 9% of the world’s oil and perhaps as much as 40% of the world’s natural gas. Add to this the fact that vital pipeline routes cross through the region and a case for war can be understood. (though not justified) Iran’s potential prosperity also threatens neighboring Israel’s regional dominance, thus, the strong impulse among neocons to push for a confrontation. (Whatever the influence of the neocons in the current administration, I do not see this as the primary impetus for war)
