Cabal Pushes for Iran War

The clique is comprised mostly of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the impetuous Saudi leader Mohammed bin Salman, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton, and their neocon and pro-Zionist allies in Congress. None has been shy of making it clear that they wish to see the might of the United States military directed at Iran. It has been a neocon dream for decades, going back to the Reagan and Bush-Cheney era, but it has been boosted lately by the bizarre alliance of Israel and the Saudis, an alliance forged purely on a desire to crush Iran. Such an outcome would leave Israel free to impose a so-called Kushner plan for Middle East peace on the Palestinians and allow Netanyahu to launch a war aimed at destroying Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Pompeo’s ‘Pandora’s Box’

Neo-conservatives always tend to take advantage of situations to fill political power vacuums and as Trump’s administration has been rocked by one scandal after another, war mongers and regime change activists like Pompeo, Bolton, and now, Abrams, have grabbed key positions within the Trump administration. On January 25, Pompeo announced that Abrams was being appointed as the special envoy overseeing US policy toward Venezuela. But that announcement came after Pompeo, Bolton, Abrams, and Pence had secret meetings with Guaido in mid-December 2018 in Washington to coordinate regime change activities to force Maduro from office after his January inauguration. Guaido also traveled in December to Brazil and Colombia to hold secret meetings with Bolsonaro, still the president-elect, and Duque. Guaido clandestinely crossed the border into Colombia, from where he traveled to the United States and Brazil. It was also disclosed that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed Venezuela with Duque on January 26.

On Iran, the Neocons Are No Ronald Reagan

In their pursuit of a policy of maximum pressure on Iran, America’s neoconservatives have pushed a nostalgic narrative: the Trump administration can bring down Iran’s theocracy the way that the Reagan administration helped defeat and dissolve the Soviet Union.

This comparison has been advanced by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), which promotes draconian sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Its arguments figured prominently in Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent speechat the Reagan library in which he asserted that Iran is still a revolutionary regime “committed to spreading the revolution to other countries, by force if necessary.”

Pompeo at State and Bolton as Trump’s national security advisor completed the neocon takeover of Trump’s geopolitical agenda – Wall Street running domestic affairs.

The combination represents a major setback for world peace and stability, greater aggression likely, along with the triumph of neoliberal harshness over social justice – a dismal and frightening state of affairs.

Secretary Tillerson was far from an ideal choice, but his anointed successor at the State Department – Mike Pompeo – may ditch diplomacy all together and start a war!

We both attended West Point. That’s where the commonalities end. I’ve been a soldier opposed to (endless) war; he’ll be a statesman opposed to peace. That should give us cause for pause.
